Sick, sick, sick

Lennon will never go to a Ringling Bros. Circus.

Don't support circuses that use animal performers. People performers are good enough. The animals live the most inhumane, unnatural, horrific lives. It is disgusting.

Take a look at this website that shows how the trainers "teach" the animals their tricks. It also shows the conditions they live in, basically a cement building with their ankles chained to something for the entire day unless they are being trained. I feel sick after watching these amazing animals that have to suffer like this and live a life in our world that is nothing like their natural environment.

Here is an article about how one of Ringling Bros. recent circus performances was canceled due to poor ticket sales. Peta & Peta supporters keep up the good work!

If you have a minute watch this video. It is very informative.

I think many people just don't realize this happens because the circus doesn't want you to know this. Open your eyes and become aware, and most of all, DON'T SUPPORT THE CIRCUS!

A few years ago my nieces went to the circus. They went down to get a closer look at the horses and they both came back practically in tears. They said they could see whip marks on them & that they wanted to go home. That should tell you something right there. We had to lie to them to get them to stay. After that I will never be caught at the circus again.

I could not agree with you more! I to will make sure Chase never attends a circus. The way the animals are treated is disgusting. The sad thing is, i think people turn a blind eye to it just so there kids can go and enjoy the circus. SO unfortunate.

I agree with most of this, HOWEVER Ringling Bros Circus has changed a ton in the last 20 years. The animals they use (like the elephants) live in a big habitat with other rescued elephants and have a breeding program in Florida. They have bred more than 21 elephants in the last 15 years which is more than any other conservation effort in the world. They alternate the elephants out so they aren't on the road for too long. Most of the elephants they have bred will never perform in the circus. Years ago Ringling bros was sued by animal advocates groups and were held accountable for their abuse to the animals. Since then they have changed their tactics and also started the Center for Elephant Conservation. So while they do still use animals for entertainment and PETA doesn't agree with that, Ringling Bro's has changed a lot in the last 20 years. p.s. I don't like Peta, I think they are over the top crazy people.

I agree with two things you said:
That they were sued by animal activists, and that Peta are crazy people.
I still like most of what Peta stands for. If they weren't around there would be a lot more fucked up stuff going on.
I don't care if they have a big animal habitat. The fact remains that elephants DO NOT want to be doing hand stands in front of a bunch of humans. They want to be in the wild doing all of their animal instinct behavoirs.
And honestly the way they train them is severely disturbing. The fact that they are breeding more sickens me too. So they can train them to do more things that elephants were never meant to do. Yuck!
Oh, and if by "rescued elephants" you mean the ones that they kill their mothers in the wild and then take their babies, I get what you mean!
Sorry, but the circus really chaps my ass!
Thanks Jamie!

OK I reread your comment and I am glad that you said you don't agree with the training. There are multiple video footage tapes showing them using bullhooks on them, and it is very disturbing to watch (check those links I posted, it's sickening). I still don't agree with the circus, despite them having the breeding program. I find their training methods & animal abuse FAR outweigh their breeding program. Their website is a great PR stunt too! Oh well, there is a major court case against them AGAIN starting in less than a month on their continual abuse to their animals. Numerous ex employees as recent as 2000 are testifying to the abuse, using bullhooks to train them, severly beating them & keeping them chained for up to 23 hours of the day. I guess it will all pan out in court and hopefully they will get what's coming to them! (unless of course they go and donate more money to the gov't, then they can get out of it yet again! go gov't! way to be)! I still like you Chels, but I HATE the circus, which is obvious, huh. P.S. I got the green gel cleanser so I expect my face to be as sparkling as yours. How long will it take??

You should be sparkling within 24 hours. Oh, and are you coming friday night? Did you get the invite?

Also, did you know that Disney on Ice and the circus and in cahoots? They have the same owners or something like that.

Okay damnit. I have a confession to make. So, I knew that in the past the circus would abuse the animals, but then I had heard about that law suit and about their conservation efforts so I thought they had turned over a new leaf. So, last week my sister and I bought tickets to see the circus on Saturday. And then you posted your blog. Now I have guilt because I just supported the circus. I feel sick inside and I couldn't sleep last night because of it. I want to cry.

DON'T CRY! I'm sorry! I sort of knew you were going (just cause I remembered you going to the elephant thing last year), and that's why you were defending it! But now you know, so next year you can turn over a new leaf.

Oh, and I didn't get any invite? I was wondering about you asking for my address. What is it?! YAY!

Don't apologize for letting the truth be known sista. Just be glad most of our family is smart enough to vote Obama.

Totally can't visit the link because I know I'll (literally) throw up. I'm so sensitive about animals...I'm a huge advocate for their health and safety and consider it a moral issue of mine if they are mis-treated for others enjoyment or for being worn or whatever...good for you for speaking up.

So, what is the plan for this weekend? Do we know yet? Where is your cabin and what should we bring? Do you want us to bring food and whatnot?

Required reading for Chelsea,

Although it seems you have partially seen the light, this article directly refutes all of the points you have mad in Ringlings' defense.

Here is a sample excerpt-
"At least 17 of Ringling’s elephants have died since 1992. Besides the fact that Ringling’s endangered Asian elephants are dying off faster than the circus is breeding them, most of its elephants were actually captured in the wild. Of the estimated 63 elephants currently used by Ringling, 44 were taken out of the wild in traumatic capture expeditions, and another 21 who died or were transferred to other facilities in recent years were also taken directly from the wild and their families overseas.

Furthermore, none of Ringling’s elephants have any hope of ever being returned to the wild where Asian elephants are listed as endangered. Ringling’s captive breeding program is all about replenishing its supply of tormented performers, not about helping elephants in their natural habitats."
